چکیده

The objective of the research was to evaluate effects increasing dietary Zn sulfate concentration for primiparous gestating ewes on subsequent milk SCC, intramammary microbial identifications, and fatty acid composition. Commercial white-face (WF; n = 27) black-face (BF; 24) (age ≈18 mo; BW 87.48 ± 8.37 kg) were sorted into breed-type groups within ranked by BW, then, they randomly divided 3 supplement treatment groups: CON (n 13; 40 mg/kg Zn; ≈1 × NASEM recommendations), Zn500 21; 500 ≈4 Zn1000 17; 1,000 ≈7 recommendations). Treatments administered in Zn-fortified pelleted alfalfa (0.45 kg/ewe per day) fed from 87.5 8.9 d gestation until parturition. Milk traits collected at parturition (d 1 lactation), ≈30 lactation, lamb weaning (≈90 lactation) assessed as repeated measures with fixed treatment, breed type, litter size. type interaction affected ewe logSCC (P 0.01), Zn500, BF had greater than WF (5.90 0.08 vs. 5.46 0.08; P < 0.01). However, types did not differ between treatments ≥ 0.92). Ewe greatest 0.01) (6.03 0.06), intermediate (5.72 0.06; 1), least 30 lactation (5.21 0.06). Intramammary infections common samples (77%) (47%) based culture-based identifications. most frequently identified species included Bacillus spp. Staphylococcus Black-face concentrations C16:1 (1.78 mg/100 1.39 mg 100 total acids), C17:1 (0.86 0.76 C20:4 (0.28 0.24 acids; ≤ 0.04) ewes. Including diets beyond recommendations mid late no effect pathogens identified, or findings indicated there may be important differences utilization requirements affecting inflammation.

Supplementation of increasing amounts of linseed oil to dairy cows fed total mixed rations: effects on digestion, ruminal fermentation characteristics, protozoal populations, and milk fatty acid composition.

The effect of linseed oil (LO) supplementation on nutrient digestibility, forage (i.e., timothy hay) in sacco ruminal degradation, ruminal fermentation characteristics, protozoal populations, milk production, and milk fatty acid (FA) profile in dairy cows was investigated. Four ruminally cannulated, primiparous lactating cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design (28-d periods). They were fe...

Effect of parity on milk yield, composition, somatic cell count, renneting parameters and bacteria counts of Comisana ewes.

Twenty-four Comisana ewes, with no history of mastitis, were included in this study, with eight ewes each in parities 1, 2 and 3. Groups were separately penned on straw litter and ewes were individually checked for yield, composition, renneting properties and bacteriological characteristics of milk from January, when separated from their lambs (50+/-3 days after lambing), to May. Samples with m...

Effects of Dietary Protein Levels for Gestating Gilts on Reproductive Performance, Blood Metabolites and Milk Composition

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary CP levels in gestation under equal lysine content on reproductive performance, blood metabolites and milk composition of gilts. A total of 25 gilts (F1, Yorkshire×Landrace) were allotted to 4 dietary treatments at breeding in a completely randomized design, and fed 1 of 4 experimental diets containing different CP levels (11%, 13%...

Dry Matter Intake, Milk Yield and Milk Fatty Acid Composition of Dairy Cows Fed Raw or Microwave Irradiated Safflower Seed as a Substitution to Cottonseed

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of using raw or microwave irradiated safflower seed on dry matter intake, milk production and composition, milk fatty acid profile, blood parameters, and nutrient apparent digestibility in early lactation cows. Nine multiparous Holstein cows at early lactation were randomly assigned to one of three treatments based on 3 × 3 balanced latin ...

Effects of dietary copper sulfate on the fatty acid composition of porcine depot fats.

C ONSISTENCY of carcass fat may be a factor in pork quality (Harrington, 1958). Barber et al. (1957) and Beltis (1961) reported that dietary copper supplements adversely affected the carcass grades of market pigs. Taylor and Thomke (1964) observed that copper supplementation of the diet resulted in a softening of the depot fat as indicated by a significantly (P < .01 ) greater iodine value (Han...
